7/28/11 - update on 'The Computer Guys' show...

You may have noticed that 'The Computer Guys' was not aired at all this week....

Originally when we went off the air a couple years ago (after a 5 year run), it was because UCTV had been forced (by COMCAST) to another channel (from 3 to 265), and we immediately saw the amount of viewers and call-ins disappear (except for a handful of faithful viewers). We gave it several more months before we pulled the plug.

When we decided to come back on the air a couple months ago, it was our hope that in the two years since we had left the air, that things had changed, and people had found their way back to UCTV. So we decided to experiment & give it another go. Unfortunately even after heavy promotion leading up to the show, we have discovered that nothing has changed since we left the air two years ago.

We really *wanted* to make this work again, and are thrilled it helps people, but ultimately the purpose of the show is advertising - and we did not see anywhere close to the volume of viewers/call-ins/interest that we had hoped for (in fact your question is the 1st and only one to ask where the show went!). So yes, we have pulled the plug on the show.

This week we cover several questions from viewers via our facebook page (www.facebook.com/affordablecomp). Resetting IE to defaults is discussed, checking what version of IE you have and how to upgrade is also covered. Checking to see what service pack you have installed is demonstrated as well. Will also demonstrate how to remove programs from your computer, specifically toolbars. We also compare our service rates and policies to some 'big box stores'. And as always we also take a live call or two.

In this week's 'Back to the Basics' segment with Steve, we discussed the various parts that make up your average computer, differences between things like RAM & Memory.

This week We had a live caller with questions regarding reloading Windows & backing up their data before doing so.

We also had a segment where we discussed how music is really downloaded legally, and what can happen when you download copyrighted material illegally.

In this show we also reviewed the new breed of viruses that is hitting everyone's systems these days. You'd better get used to us talking about this issue, we plan on talking about it a lot - we wanna make sure as many people are educated about this as possible.

Hope you enjoyed our first show back on the air in 1.5 years!

We basically used most of this week's show to reintroduce ourselves (and some family members!), and re-familiarize you with the stores and what we do.

Don't forget, last time we aired back in early 2010, there was no Hixson store! So we now have three area stores to serve all of your computer needs. We had the Hixson store's Manager Tyler Hill on the show for a few minutes too. More info on the new store on our website and on it's Google Place Page.

We also spent a little time discussing the latest way systems are being infected with a new breed of viruses. We plan on spending much more time on this topic next week.

We have lots of new and exciting topics planned for future shows, and plan to spend a lot of time going 'back to the basics' with some new learning segments brought to you by Steve.

Don't worry, even though we didn't take any calls this week, we will be back to a more 'normal' show next week, and take some live calls during the show. Don't forget, we are back to a 30 minute running time, so tune it at 6pm sharp next Thursday!

Welcome! I can only assume you are reading this because you are a fan of 'The Computer Guys' show, well as you have probably heard by now we are returning to the air June 9th 2011 at 6pm!

Previously each week on the show we would update our 'The Computer Guys' section of www.affordablecomp.com with links to topics we discussed on each week's episode. We will still be doing that only we will be using this blog instead. We feel it will give it a more streamlined approach and make it easier to find topics discussed, no matter how long ago they were on the show!
